Knitting Jenny Patterns 42 and 43: Fair Isle Inspired Headbands are a challenging knitting project with huge creative potential.

Knitting Jenny Patterns 42 and 43 are of similar design yet are constructed differently.

Pattern 42 (with the white ribbing and purple “ram’s horns” Fair Isle motif) utilizes Construction Method 1: Headband with Integral Ribbings that is easy to knit in one piece, seamlessly. Pattern 42 requires eight colors of wool.

Pattern 43 (with the green ribbing and “ram’s horns” Fair Isle motif) utilizes Construction Method 2: Headband with Identical Ribbings that require a provisional cast on. Pattern 43 requires seven colors of wool.

The book includes knitting patterns, motifs, and instructions in the following inclusive formats:

  • Color Chart
  • Color Written Instructions
  • Grayscale Chart
  • Illustrations

The color charts and color written instructions guide the knitting clearly; however, grayscale designs are also included to enable the knitter to envision personal color preferences for this Knitting Jenny pattern, by seeing the chart and motifs alone, in grayscale, without color distraction.

The headbands were designed and knit with pure Shetland wool. The pattern requires Jamieson and Smith brand 2 ply jumper weight wool (or alternately substitute any fingering weight, 2 ply jumper weight, or 2 ply equivalent to a 4 ply).

The following tools are suggested for this pattern.

  • 2.0mm knitting needles (for the ribbing)
  • 3.0mm knitting needles (for the stranded colorwork)

The gauge (or tension) for this Knitting Jenny pattern is:

34 stitches and 40 rows to 4 inches (10 centimeters) over the stranded colorwork pattern, knit circularly with 3.0mm knitting needles, after washing, blocking, drying.

The knitting needle sizes stipulated in this pattern are designed to achieve a knitted headband that fits a medium size head. The book also includes advice regarding how to achieve a finished headband size that is either larger or smaller.

The headbands are knit circularly.

To empower the knitter with additional skills and options, the book includes a chapter, titled, Four Headband Construction Methods. These four different construction methods support knitters who appreciate knitting construction options.

Color dominance is discussed to support consistent, uniform stitch definition.

The book includes 12 illustrations and 36 pages.

The book is intended to be read electronically, in consideration of the environment.

Published in the United States in 2025 by Mall & Mall Press, a publishing imprint of Mall & Mall LLC.
